In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn how to combine simple and complex patterns to create a mosaic tapestry or carpet. You will make a 5 x 10 inch woven tapestry by creating intricate designs using millefiori, glass, jewelry, fabric and beads. Design templates will be provided. No grouting required. Open to students at all levels.
When you're not working on your mosaic, you can enjoy the culture and natural beauty of Berkshire mountains in the summer. The choice is endless. You can listen to classical music at Tanglewood, the summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Museums abound including the Sterling and Francine Clark Art and the Norman Rockwell Museum. You can choose to see dance or theater, or simply sit at the pool. The area is also known for its outdoor activities and offers great hiking and kayaking.
I've reserved two units. Each is equipped with two bedrooms and two baths. One room has a king bed, the other a queen bed. There is a queen-sized pull out couch in the living room. Each unit has a fully equipped kitchen, living room and deck.
What’s Not Included:
Food, tours, entrance fees, and transportation are not covered. I encourage everyone to bring food we can pool for breakfasts, lunches and snacks to minimize costs.

You can pay your $100 deposit online with a credit card or you can send me a check for $100 made out to Amy Marks. Mail check to: Amy Marks, 111 Riverview Avenue, Waltham, MA 02453. I will collect the rest of the registration fee and housing fees on Saturday morning. The fees can be paid via cash, check or credit card.

Cancellation: If we do not get 4 registrants for the workshop, the workshop will be canceled and you will get a 100% refund. If you cancel within 30 days of the retreat, you will be charged a $20 administrative fee, which will be taken from your deposit.

Check-in. Then pack or pick up a picnic dinner to take to Tanglewood in Lenox, MA. Sit on the lawn and listen to a classical concert performed by the Boston Symphony Orchestra. The concert will feature pianist Emanuel Ax playing an all-Mozart Program including Piano Concerto No. 17 in G, K.453 and Symphony No. 41, Jupiter. Seats are approximately $20.

Wake up early and take a walk, swim or workout. The workshop begins at 9:00 am. We'll work till about 4:30, then head out to Jacob's Pillow in Becket for a free outdoor dance concert that begins at 6:00 pm. We'll dine at 8:00 pm in Lenox in one of the Berkshire's best restaurants, Alta.

The workshop continues on Sunday. We'll start at 9:30 am and stop at 4:00 to do a show and tell session to discuss what you've done and learned. Sunday evening is free.

It's play day and time to enjoy the culture and natural beauty of the Berkshires. The choice is endless. I am happy to help you plan a custom itinerary based on your interests.
Visit a museum, go shopping or antiquing, kayak on the Housatonic river or drive up to the top of Mount Greylock, take a hike, visit an historic home, enjoy theater, or simply sit at the indoor or outdoor pool. The resort also has a well-equipped fitness center.

Two bedrooms with queen beds, one with 2 twin beds and second floor bedroom with small bed. The house has 2.5 bathrooms, a fully stocked kitchen, dining area and living room. There is an all-season enclosed deck overlooking 1.5 beautifully landscaped acres. The house is near Nauset Light Beach, part of the Cape Cod National sea shore, is a stone's throw to Nickerson State Park on the bay and is located right on the Cape Cod Bike Trail which goes all the way to Provincetown. Other accommodations are available nearby through VRBO or AirBnB.

Friday, September 21, 2018 (Tour Day)
We'll meet at 2:30 at the The Church of the Transfiguration in Orleans to view Byzantine-style mosaics made in the studio of Alessandra Caprara in Ravenna, Italy. Then we'll check into the House on Koi Pod and end the day with Welcome Dinner at one of the Cape’s wonderful seafood restaurants.

We’re two steps from the Cape Code Bike Trail. Start the day with a bike ride or walk on the trail followed by breakfast. The workshop begins at 9 and ends at 4:30 with Happy Hour on the deck. There is an hour for lunch (or you can keep working!) when you can enjoy the beautifully yard, take a walk, relax by Koi Pond, listen to a waterfall or get to know other mosaic artists. We can all go out to dinner or you can have dinner in and continue working on your project during open studio time.

We’ll follow the same schedule as Saturday, but will break around 4:00 pm for a “Show and Tell” where workshop participants will show others what they’ve done and share what they’ve learned. For those staying on Sunday evening, we can go out to dinner and if you want, you can continue working on your mosaic.

We say good-bye to the each other and the House on Koi Pond, but not before a final bike ride or walk on the Cape Cod Bike Trail. On your way home, take a leisurely trip back along scenic route 6A with stops at galleries or visit the great shops in Orleans and Chatham. In Sandwich, visit the Sandwich Glass Museum, see a live demo of glass making and view samples of glass dating from the 1800s to today.
